Woven hybrid fabrics

Woven hybrid fabrics are a combination of different types of yarn and unite the specific yarn properties in a new product. While aramid fibers, for example, provide tensile strength and wear resistance, carbon fibers can improve the stiffness and compressive strength of the fabric. This enables the production of reinforcement woven fabrics tailored to the relevant requirements. Possible combination options include:

  • Glass-para-aramid
  • Glass-polypropylene
  • Glass-carbon

Fiber types and properties

Aramid fibers

  • Stiffness and strength
  • Impact resistance / good shock absorption
  • High energy absorption capacity and wear resistance
  • Temperature resistant and inert to most chemicals

(E-)glass fibers

  • Excellent mechanical, thermal and dielectric (non-conductive) properties
  • Non-combustible and temperature resistant
  • Inert to most chemicals
  • Resistant to weathering

Carbon fibers

  • High level of stiffness and compressive strength
  • Excellent fatigue strength at dynamic load exposure
  • Low thermal expansion (negative expansion coefficient)

Polypropylene (PP) fibers

  • Extremely fatigue resistant
  • High strength, stiffness and hardness
  • Resistant to non-oxidizing acids and alkalis
