The growing world population and the construction boom in big cities mean that new buildings are constantly being put up. It is important to use the right materials throughout the various phases of the build so that construction is not only cost-efficient, but also durable and visually appealing. Vitrulan’s broad product and manufacturing range of technical textiles means that they can easily be used in a variety of areas. Whatever the application, whether our time-tested woven mesh fabric is needed for reinforcing plaster systems or a particularly tensile strong and flexible solution is required for roofing and sealing membranes, the customizable parameters and finishes allow a wide range of possible applications.

Greater tensile strength and flexibility

Roofing and waterproofing membranes require special properties when it comes to sealing buildings and roofs reliably. Vitrulan woven mesh fabrics, scrims and laminates are used in the manufacture of bitumen membranes as well as in plastic sealing membranes. A woven mesh fabric gives the bitumen membrane high tensile strength with low elongation, as it is particularly dimensionally stable. In contrast, for plastic sheeting polyester fabrics are used, which ensure high elongation and high tear strength at the same time. In both cases, the tear initiation and propagation strength is increased and the cold bending behavior (flexural and breaking strength) is improved.

At the same time, Vitrulan woven mesh fabrics are also suitable for use in render systems, as they provide the basis for reliable and long-lasting reinforcement of thin, medium and thick layers. The woven mesh fabric stretches only minimally even when exposed to extreme temperature variations, and prevents crazing as well as the formation of undesirable hairline, shrinkage or joint cracks. Special solid fabrics provide additional protection from mechanical damage, for example at the base of buildings.

Custom surface finish

The surface finish can be modified as desired by using technical fabrics, either in a panel system for insulating materials or for general wall preparation.

A laminate can also be provided with a fleece layer to give the smoothest possible surface and thus an improved appearance. This creates a poreless surface that offers a high wet strength.

If a woven mesh fabric is installed on the other hand, a deliberately textured surface is created that also has a reinforcing effect. This mesh structure later ensures better surface adhesion of the applied materials, such as adhesive for tiling.

Customizable properties

Every project has different requirements regarding the materials to be used. For example, they should be non-combustible or flame-retardant, contain no formaldehyde or halogen, or be self-adhesive on one side.

Vitrulan woven mesh fabrics  can be provided with different coatings to give the product the desired properties in line with what is required.

Sun protection/shade

In the planning of buildings, sun protection is becoming increasingly important and the shading elements used must not only fulfil visual but also technical attributes in particular such as UV resistance or non-combustibility in order to guarantee maximum safety.

Individually combinable materials and the possibility of providing additional coatings mean that Vitrulan technical fabrics can be optimally developed and produced for subsequent use as shading textiles. They also have excellent rollability.
