Low weight
Shipbuilding continues to develop by leaps and bounds. New ways are constantly being sought to reduce the gross weight and the resulting fuel consumption as low as possible. However, the strength of the overall construction often suffers from a reduction in building materials.
This is different when using Vitrulan multiaxial non-crimp fabrics and hybrid non-crimp fabrics . As the fibers can be aligned in various directions, this means the non-crimp fabrics can be tailored to the forces they will later be subjected to and thus ensure maximum possible force absorption.
The same applies to our woven rovings made of glass or carbon, which have outstanding technical and mechanical properties.
The reinforcing effect of these products means that fewer reinforcement layers are needed, thereby reducing the overall weight of the component as well as time and effort required for installation.

Optimized resin flow
Lightweight composite materials have always helped to lower fuel consumption as well as emissions, and are also suitable for the corrosive and demanding environmental conditions at sea.
Vitrulan resin flow products and stitchbonded mats are particularly well suited for downstream processing by means of resin infusion.
HighFlow Marine, specially developed for the boatbuilding sector, also facilitates full wetting of the fabric and minimizes air bubbles, thus enabling up to 500% faster processing speed for the entire laminate structure. This can result in an overall reduction in operating costs by up to 15%.
Optimized force absorption
On the high seas, all parts of a ship – whether hull, keel, mast, deck or superstructure – are subjected to strong mechanical forces. The correct structure of a component plays a decisive role in withstanding these forces in the long term.
By aligning the fibers parallel to the load direction, Vitrulan multiaxial non-crimp fabrics and hybrid non-crimp fabrics can be tailored to the specific force. This enables the maximum load to be absorbed in the predetermined direction and dissipated in the component without any damage occurring.
Quick mold loading
Using stitchbonded mats or a combination of a stitchbonded mat and a multiaxial non-crimp fabric or hybrid non-crimp fabric as a NCF/mat combination is a simple way to improve working efficiency, as one layer is equivalent to four separate layers of reinforcement.
Even the mere use of multiaxial non-crimp fabrics and hybrid non-crimp fabricsrequires fewer reinforcement layers, as the specially aligned fibers mean that one layer already has superior mechanical properties.

Self-adhesive
Most technical textiles and composites are available with an adhesive coating compatible with polyester of vinylester up to a width of 127 cm. The adhesive holds the reinforcement in place while the mold is filled and closed.
Good drapability
Good drapability is particularly important to prevent wrinkling or the creation of resin-rich zones that can be prone to cracking.
Vitrulan multiaxial non-crimp fabrics, hybrid non-crimp fabrics, woven rovings and woven hybrid fabrics can be tailored to the specific application, which means that even complex mold shapes can be lined without any problems.
