German TV studio in London goes for full coverage with Vitrulan glass fleece
German TV station ZDF has a studio in London close to the recently renamed Elizabeth Tower (“Big Ben”) and St. James’s Park. ZDF has owned the building at 30 Old Queen Street in the City of Westminster since 1990. When the time came to modify and renovate the building in line with conservation principles, ZDF awarded the contract to ÜberRaum Architecture in London, a firm of architects with operations in Germany and the UK.
Initial situation: Renovation of the listed building with the aim of achieving modern, smooth walls and ceilings
In the UK, most wallpaper systems use old-fashioned lining paper, which has to be applied in two layers to achieve a good level of stability. The architects wanted a wall covering that looked similar, but which would last longer and would be easier to hang.
The requirements for renovating a listed building are high. Products have to carry fire certificates and the wall coverings and materials used must not pose any health risks.
Solution: SYSTEXX Comfort V22 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Fleece V22)
SYSTEXX Comfort V22 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Fleece V22) glass fabric was the perfect solution in the architects’ opinion, since it met all the requirements. And the simple application method using Aqua technology also saved time and money since it did away with the need to apply adhesive.
The result: A modern, attractive solution
The plain glass fabric blends in perfectly with the ambiance of the 7-storey TV studio and provides a link between the modern furnishings and the historic architecture. All the rooms were refurbished: studio & server room, cutting room, reception, offices for studio managers and journalists and the staircase.
