New regional hospital, Wroclaw/PL
SYSTEXX glass fiber – wall coverings for every situation
Now that the interior work on the new regional hospital in Wroclaw is complete (October 2013 to June 2014), there is nothing standing in the way of the official opening in December 2014. The hospital will provide accident and emergency services for Wroclaw and the entire Lower Silesia region with its 400,000 inhabitants.
Initial situation: Construction of a new regional hospital
The four-story regional hospital and rescue helicopter landing pad have a footprint of 48,500 m². An innovative feature is the direct route from the A&E department to the operating theaters, which is designed to enable safe transportation of patients, unhampered by day-to-day hospital operations.
The hospital has 16 departments, around 550 beds, its own clinic with 20 consultants, and an operating block with ten operating theaters. Once the hospital was built, the challenge was to find suitable wall coverings that were durable and would meet the particularly high hygiene standards and regulations for hospitals and clinics.
Solution: SYSTEXX glass fiber wall coverings
A decision was soon made to use glass fiber wall coverings, but which manufacturer offered the necessary and desirable product characteristics? Vitrulan’s SYSTEXX glass fabrics stood out because of their excellent technical properties. They are particularly suitable for the healthcare sector, being easy to clean and disinfect and vapor-permeable. They create a healthy indoor atmosphere and are Oeko-Tex certified.
Like nearly all SYSTEXX glass fiber wall coverings, the chosen designs came with Aqua technology: an adhesive coating on the back that just needs to be activated with water. This means that there is no need to apply adhesive to the wall coverings at all, reducing labor time by between 30% and 40%.
The result: Protection for walls and patients
To cater for young patients as well, 900 m² of SYSTEXX Comfort Glassfleece V22 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Fleece V22) glass fleece was hung in the children’s department and painted in child-friendly colors. It can be hung quickly with no visible joins, producing a completely smooth appearance, which provided a perfect base for the colorful paints.
A further 48.500 m² of SYSTEXX Comfort Structure 629 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Structure 629) glass fiber fabric was used in the hospital. Because of the special way they are made, SYSTEXX glass fiber fabrics are extremely resistant to physical wear and tear. They bridge the dents that appear in walls as a result of hard knocks and help prevent the spread of shrinkage and hairline cracks because of their high tensile strength.
The hospital walls are now covered with hard-wearing SYSTEXX products. Thanks to their long renovation cycle and high product lifespan, they create a lasting, uniform appearance that pleases both the customer and the patients.
