Remodeling and renovation of the former US Army base in Hanau

As a wall covering SYSTEXX Active Reno S38 offers decisive advantages for renovation projects. Processing is economical and the product hides uneven substrates. This special wall covering was used for the former US Army base in Hanau.

Problem: Cracked substrate was to be renovated without extensive pretreatment work

Private apartments were to be created in 2009 from the former US Army barracks in Hanau. A time-consuming project: The barracks were run down and would have needed extensive renovation with long preparation times. “The walls and ceilings were painted with latex and were uneven and sometimes covered with large cracks. We were looking for a wall covering which would bridge over the cracks and offer long-term protection,” said Gerhard Marquardt, the responsible Darmstadt architect. Five thousand square meters were to be renovated.

Solution: SYSTEXX Active Reno S38

SYSTEXX Active Reno S38 was used because extensive preparations (e.g. chipping off the plaster or leveling it with a trowel and stabilizing the wall) were unnecessary. This wall covering that was developed especially for fast renovation of worn interior walls can be directly applied to uneven surfaces. The renovation fabric made with Jacquard weaving techniques bridges over the cracks or stops them from spreading. The weaving pattern smooths the unevenness visually and gives the walls a well-kept plaster look. “Thanks to the Aqua Technology, the material only has to be moistened with water to activate the adhesive integrated on the back of the fabric,” explains Frank Brückner of the responsible processing firm Baudekoration Brückner GmbH from Blankenbach.

Result: Almost like rough plaster

Because SYSTEXX Aqua Technology makes the application of adhesive unnecessary, the walls could be renovated extremely economically. In contrast to conventionally processing, SYSTEXX Active Reno S38 saves you 30 to 40% in time and money. After it is applied, the product protects the wall. The Jacquard weaving technique makes S38 resistant to impacts and enables cracks to be reinforced and bridged over. The optical result: The walls look harmonious and attractive and appear almost as if they had been plastered.
