Redecorating and renovation projects in historic buildings are often particularly complex and delicate. The buildings are frequently listed and require particular care. The walls tend to be cracked and uneven and may not all have been constructed in the same way.

Initial situation: Structural problems

Built in the center of Bayreuth in 1915, the building had been standing empty for years. The plan was to renovate and redecorate it completely to create modern new apartments. The aim was to retain the historic structure and listed walls, while creating a modern, healthy interior using sustainable materials. The historic walls had to be protected against new cracks, but still had to be allowed to breathe. In terms of appearance, the walls needed to be practically smooth.

Solution: SYSTEXX Premium Exclusive 060 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Silk 060)

UIn order to fulfill all four conditions – wall reinforcement, sustainability, breathability and practically smooth walls – the contractor opted for glass fabric, more specifically SYSTEXX Premium Exclusive 060 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Silk 060). This can be applied using the double-cut method to produce completely uniform surfaces with no visible seams or joins. The living areas and relaxation spaces were lined with gypsum plasterboard, sanded, smoothed and then hung with SYSTEXX Premium Exclusive 060 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Silk 060).

Thanks to Aqua technology, the work was completed in a day and the apartments were ready to be moved into in a very short space of time.

The result: A functional and attractive solution

SYSTEXX Premium Exclusive 060 (now named SYSTEXX Pure Silk 060) robust glass fabric fulfilled the visual requirements (practically smooth walls) and also met the technical specifications, which included wall reinforcement and a healthy indoor atmosphere.
